Ranks[/b]
Okay, in this world, there are ranks in ninja terms.
There are around 9 different ranking types. First we'll go over the simple ones, and then we'll get more complex:
Academy Student
This is where every ninja starts their training. It's basically a pre-ninja stage. You do not go on any missions. You're not even in teams yet. Usually, academy students graduate at the age of around 12. Though it's younger with some and older with others. An academy student will be put through their paces with learning, and having both physical and mental tests. Chuunins teach here.
Genin
Also known as 'lower ninja'. The next stage of ninja. This is the stage you are at after you have passed your exams to become a real ninja. You are sorted into teams of three plus one Jonin teacher. At this point you are allowed to go on D-rank missions and no higher. These missions usually consist of getting shopping, finding cats and pulling up weeds, stuff that isn't normally to do with being a ninja. You will be required to do some training with your team as well, so that you can function fully as a team. When your teacher thinks that you are ready as a team, they will submit the whole team into the Chuunin exams.
Chuunin
Also known as 'Middle ninja'. There is much more skill and responsibility on this rank. And once you reach here, you and your team may embark on C-B rank missions. Chuunins can choose to stay and teach at the academy or go out on missions. When a ninja becomes a chuunin they are allowed to wear the green vest, though they can choose not to.
Jonin
Also known as 'Elite ninja'. This level of ninja is relatively hard to reach. When this rank is reached, you are allowed to go on A-S rank missions and you may go on them alone or with a team. Though you can also be assigned to a genin team to train them, and embark on D-rank missions with them. You are appointed to be a Jonin by the Kage of your village.
Special Jonin
The same ranking as a Jonin, but they specialise in a certain field, for example healing or chakra manipulation. Sometimes this rank is easier to reach than normal Jonin as you do not need to be good all round, you just have to have an excellent speciality. Though this is true ANBU captains are also Special Jonin.
ANBU
ANBU or 'Ansatsu Senjutsu Tokushu Butai' (Literally meaning 'Special Assassination and Tactical Squad') are an assasination squad that work directly for the Kage of a village. They have 3 fields of work, assassination, espionage and protection. Like Genins they travel in groups of three plus one captain. Their identities are never revealed to the enemy as they wear porcelain animal masks and have standard black, white and grey uniforms. Also at this stage you get a certain tattoo on your left upper arm to show that you are of this level. The ANBU are sort of like the 'ninja-police-force'. Hunter ninja also fall under this category, as they specify in finding missing nin.
Missing-Nin
Also known as 'Rogue Ninja'. These are ninjas that have left (with no intention of returning) or betrayed their village and are so on the run from the ANBU. Because these ninja left the village they could leak information about the village or techniques in the village.
Sennin
Also known as 'Sage'. These ninjas are close to the power of the Kage. These ninja normally live outside their village, but stay close to it. It is an honor to be named this rank, and few do get named so.
