Name :: Subakuno Gaara // Fifth Kazekage
Age :: Thirteen
Gender :: Male
Birth Village/land :: Sunagakure.
Rank :: Kazekage
Personality :: In his youth, Gaara initially attempted to be friendly towards others, despite the setback of having a demon inside him. Unlike that with Naruto, the whole town including the children knew that he had Shukaku inside him, so they rejected him too, despite how nice he was to them. As a result of this, he ended up giving up on attempting to be nice to people and attempted to gain their ‘respect’ through fear of him.
Gaara used sand to cast the kanji for ‘love’ on the left side of his forehead completing the sentence of ‘Demon who only loves himself’, which basically sums him up. He became withdrawn from everyone, rarely showing any emotion but anger, and loathing. He soon began to find fun in killing others, releasing his anger to the world.
Gaara does not sleep, as he has the demon of Shukaku in him. This only enhances the instability of his personality through insomnia.
Although all this is true, more recently his attitude towards life has been changing. After dealing with Naruto, he has a slightly more caring look towards others, reflecting that of Naruto’s as even though he has a demon, he is not respected through terror. Also after becoming Kazekage he begins being less hostile towards others as he has a more realistic vision of respect that does not revolve around hate and detest.
Gaara is usually a very isolated person, spending a lot of time by himself. He gets his work done quick enough, though you best not bug him about it or he’ll go psycho on you. He doesn’t like to be disturbed when he’s in the middle of something. He can be childish at times, but generally acts quite serious. He doesn’t like to show his childishness to others much as it goes against his ‘badass reputation’ that he’s built up over the years. Although he does act nicer now, he still likes his reputation slightly, so he plans on keeping it.
Appearance :: The first things, and obviously therefore most noticeable things about Gaara are his eyes. For a start, they are a very light blue, but can occasionally be seen as being a light green as well. It’s one of those tricks of the light. But his eyes are actually blue in colour, so don’t get fooled on that one. Next about his eyes, is the fact that both have large dark brown/black circles around them. These are often mistaken for being eyeliner, but then how would he stay looking so perfect? No, they are not eyeliner circles, nor bags from lack of sleep, for then they would only be below his eyes. They are in fact tanuki markings. These being from the fact that there is the demon of Shukaku in him, therefore having markings much like those of Naruto’s fox whiskers.
The next point of appearance is that his hair is very red. It’s not even ginger-red; it is plainly red, and a rather deep one at that. Although it is deep it is also relatively light, creating in itself a nice contrast. It is relatively short, barely reaching his shoulders and sitting about halfway up his neck at places, and is very scruffy. It looks very un-kept, but in a well-kept way, like it’s supposed to look the way it does. Most of it is longer than one part, where his parting lies. The hair on the left side of his ‘fringe’ (Not that he really has one) is actually purposely shorter, as that way he can show off the marking on his head.
Said ‘marking’ is actually an engraving of sand into his own forehead. A kanji symbol meaning ‘Ai’ or ‘love’ in English, therefore completing the name of himself. The name actually has various variations, such as ‘self-loving carnage’ or ‘demon who only loves himself’, but all have roughly the same meaning as one another.
Next is his build. He is both short and skinny. His height is definitely less than that of an average thirteen-year-old males, but that may be due to the lack of sleep, therefore lack of growth. Also, his weight is most likely related to his insomnia, as he is constantly burning more energy than he would be if he had been asleep, therefore making him skinnier than the average thirteen-year-old too. Despite this, he has moderately good stomach and back muscles from carrying around his sand gourd.
Last is his skin. It’s surprisingly light for someone who lives in the desert. He isn’t tanned at all really, but he usually stays out of the sun so it’s slightly understandable. Most of his family have rather fair skin as well though, so it’s an inherited trait too. Another reason for his fair skin are his clothes. He rarely wares anything revealing at all, and most of his body is usually covered by some form of cloth. Like all the clothes in Suna, all of his are breathable, so he can wear whatever clothes he likes. He generally wears a mixture of black, brown and red, those being Suna’s national colours. Along with his usual clothing, he carries a sand gourd with him (On his back) as it is what he uses to attack with.
Picture ::
Powers :: His moves are generally ninjutsu ones, as they involve that sand that lies in his gourd. Actually, nearly all of his moves are ninjutsu ones, as he doesn’t do much that doesn’t involve the sand. All of his weapons are fashioned from this sand, including the weapons that he throws. These are generally sand-shurinken, as they are easy to create and easy to throw effectively. His ninjutsu are usually offensive as well (Being attacks, not insults xD ), though he does have a few defensive ones.
Jutsus ::
Well, he has two types of jutsu, his own and Shukaku’s. Oh, and an additional one too. He has lots basically.
-SUNA NO TATE or SHIELD OF SAND. A ninjutsu move that is not controlled by the user. A large amount of sand from within a gourd will move and protect the user from any harm. This sand has it’s drawback of not being very fast though, and will therefore have trouble keeping up with faster enemies.
Gaara’s:
-MUGEN SAJIN DAITOPPA or GREAT INFINATE SANDBLAST BREAKTHROUGH. A ninjutsu move that allows the user to release a large amount of sand from the mouth.
-SUBAKU REIKYUU or DESERT COFFIN. A ninjutsu move that enables the user to trap an enemy in sand, disabling their movement or suffocating them.
-SUBAKU HAKACHI or DESERT GRAVEYARD. A ninjutsu move that follows on from Subaku Reikyuu, with the enemy already trapped in sand, the user may process to move the sand inwards, crushing the opponent.
-SUNA KYUU or SPHERE OF SAND. A defensive ninjutsu technique that covers the user in a sphere of sand.
-SUNA BUNSHIN or SAND CLONE. A ninjutsu technique that creates clones, much like that in kage bunshin, but the sand clones do not disappear when attacked. The only fault is that it doesn’t fully look like the user and is just sand taking the form of the user. If it is wished to look exactly like the user, it is unable to move.
-SUNA NO YOROI or ARMOUR OF SAND. A defensive ninjutsu that wraps the users skin in a thin layer of sand that is not visible. It uses up a lot of chakra to do this though, and can be broken.
-SANBAN BOUSHI or THIRD EYE. Yet another ninjutsu technique. A ‘third eye’ is created that can move around and is connected to the user’s optic nerve. This is used for spying.
Shukaku’s:
- GANSAKU NEMURI JUBAKU or SPELL OF FAKE SLEEP. Gaara’s transformation into full demon form, where he falls into a false sense of sleep.
-FUUTON RENKUUDAN or EMBEDDED STEROID BLANKS. A power-up type move used to blast large amounts of air from Shukaku’s mouth.
History :: Gaara’s mother died when he was born due to the sealing of her and the demon Shukaku into a sand gourd, so he never really knew her. He was an ‘experiment’ as such for the Suna military, to be a powerful weapon for them.
He grew up with his father – the Kazekage, his uncle - Yashamaru, his sister - Temari, his brother - Kankuro (and his puppets) and the demon inside him - Shukaku. His father hated him, his siblings feared him, and the whole town despised him. They hated him for this demon inside him, and being a young child, it hit him hard. The only person to ever show him affection was his mother’s brother, Yashamaru, who he spent most of his time with. Anything he needed to know, anything he needed, he’d go to Yashamaru for it. He put all his trust in him.
He became even more unstable when he reached around the age of six, when he started to realize the power he held inside of him with the demon. Shukaku continuously hurt those around Gaara, despite the training that Gaara’s father was putting him through. Gaara never intended to hurt others, and apologised time and time again afterwards, though no one would listen. When his father realised that Gaara was beginning to harness the power of Shukaku, he got scared and sent out assassins to kill the six-year old. Gaara fought these off with ease, as the sand around him and Shukaku protected him from any form of harm.
For a few months this happened, Gaara’s father would send assassins, and Gaara would fight them off and kill them each time. But then at one point, still when Gaara was six, his father ordered Yashamaru to be the assassin to kill Gaara. Yashamaru accepted this and went on his way to kill Gaara. Gaara did as he usually did with the attacks, and fought him off, hitting him hard against the wall, nearly killing him. Yashamaru at this point, removed the mask he was wearing to show Gaara that it was him. Gaara of course broke into tears, thinking that he had nearly killed the only other person to have cared for him, the other being his mother as stated by Yashamaru. But Yashamaru went on to explain that Gaara’s father had been the one to send all the assassins and that he had asked him to kill Gaara. He also stated that therefore he could have declined, but he didn’t as he believed it was Gaara’s fault that his sister had died, and that his sister had never loved Gaara and neither had he. Gaara then killed him properly and engraved the symbol of love on his head. From then he became isolated from everyone, believing that no one could care about him, and therefore he should care about no one.
Gaara spent most of his time away from his family, as he needed only himself. But despite this, when the ninja teams were created he was put in a team with his siblings and Baki as their leader. They didn’t function very well as a group, as all three fought with each other. In spite of this, they still made it to the Chunin exams. In the middle of the exams is when he faced off with Naruto, soon learning that he wasn’t the centre of the universe, and that others were important too. Also during this though, Gaara’s father, the Kazekage, was murdered by Orochimaru, and so the position was left open. The elders of Suna figured that the best way to grasp a hold of Gaara’s powers again would be to appoint him as the Kage of the village, and that they did.
Nindo :: ‘Love only yourself, and fight only for yourself.’
Sorry for the essay guys. I hope you like though!
